This is what I have so far:
- all 13 of the small squares with the colorful circle
- 3 out of the 15 white small squares
- 1 of the 9 large motif squares
That’s not too bad, especially the small ones work up relatively quickly: one takes me roughly 40 minutes to make, depending on how many interruptions I am faced with, of course, and how tired I am after a long day at the office.
If you’d like to learn how to square a circle, these are the instructions that I have used, by Three Beans in a Pod. Additionally, I have added 1. 1 round of dc all around, crocheting (2dc – 3ch – 2dc) into each corner space, and 2. 1 round of hdc in BLO, crocheting (2hdc – 2ch – 2hdc) into each corner space.
The white small squares are identical to the the colored ones, except for round 5 of Three Beans’ instructions, which I have crocheted in BLO as well to create a more clear visual break between the circle and its squaring.
Here are the instructions for the big square as it is right now. I am not sure if it’s going to stay this way, but hey – it’s all about the process, right?
Follow Three Beans’ instructions as linked above, only work in both loops instead of BLO. Keep adding rounds in the same manner until you have 8 rounds.
Round 9 – (2dc – 7dc) all around, work in BLO only.
Round 10 – Alternate between fpdc and bpdc all around, fasten off.
Round 11 – On the backside of the circle, 1sc in each dc of round 9 in main color.
Round 12 – 1ch, miss 2sts, (3dc, 3ch, 3dc to make corner), miss 2sts, sl st into next st.
Round 13 – 3ch, miss 2sts, sl st into next st, turn, 2dc into sp between circle and last dc of round 12. 3dc, 3ch, 3dc into point of corner, 3dc in the sp between the circle and the first dc of round 12, miss 2 sts, sl st, into next st.
Round 14 – 3ch, miss 2sts, sl st into next st, turn, tr, 2dc into sp, between circle and last dc, of round 13, 3dc, in next sp, 3dc, 3ch, 3dc in point, 3dc into next sp, 2dc, 1tr into sp, between circle and first dc of round 13, miss 2sts, sl st into next st.
Round 15 – 3ch, miss 2sts, sl st into next st, turn, tr, 2dc into sp between circle and last tr of round 14, 3dc in next 2 sps, 3dc, 3ch, 3dc in point, 3dc in next 2 sps, 2dc, 1tr in sp, between circle and first dc of round 14. Miss two sts, sl st into next st. This completes the corner.
10 sc, miss 2sts – repeat (rounds 12-15) 3 times.
Round 16 – 10sc – (3sc in corner space) – 10sc around corners, 10hdc between corners across, repeat 3 times
Round 17 – 1d all around, (3dc – 3ch – 3dc) into corner spaces
Round 18 – repeat round 17
Round 19 – (1dc – 1ch – miss 1sts) all around, (2dc – 3ch – 2dc) into corner spaces
Round 20 – repeat round 17
Round 21 – 1sc in BLO all around, 3sc into corner spaces
(Rounds 12 through 15 have been taken from Susan Pinner and can originally be found here.)
